The Federal Government has authorized the reopening of the Seme border for vehicle imports. Ibrahim Musa, the Director General of Road Transport, Ministry of Transport, made the disclosure on Wednesday, June 21, while addressing a meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) hosted by Nigerian and Beninese officials. The decision to reopen the border was made following protests by freight forwarders operating in the region.

Moses said.

“I was with the former Minister of Transport when freight forwarders insisted on revitalizing borders to allow free movement of goods and services. “The former minister asked me to draw up a memorandum in this regard. We revised it and handed it over to the government,” he said.

Dera Nnadi, a customs inspector at the Seme Border Command, said the agency has seen a drop in revenue since vehicle imports were banned at the border. Nadi said.

“The former Secretary of Transportation promised to present it to the Federal Executive Committee, the FEC, in response to our questions and some of the stakeholders, and one of them is the full opening of our borders.
“The minister informed us that the memo has been prepared and received by the FEC and will be forwarded to the new government. He confirmed that all requests had been received.”
