Meta head Mark Zuckerberg said ten million users signed up for Meta’s newly launched Threads app in the first seven hours after launch.
The new Threads app launched on Wednesday after many months of speculation and secrecy by the Meta Team.
Mark Zuckerberg has launched the new Threads app as a friendly rival to Twitter, hoping to leverage Instagram’s massive success to grow its user base.
Industry insiders say that Threads could attract Twitter users unhappy with the various changes made to the platform since it was bought by Elon Musk in October. Threads has similar characteristics to Twitter and allows users to post up to 500 characters. Mr. Zuckerberg, commenting on the new app, said that keeping it compatible with the platform would be the key to its success, but Elon Musk thinks otherwise.
Mr. Musk responded to Mr. Zuckerberg’s statement, stating that “it’s infinitely better to be attacked by strangers on Twitter than to indulge in Instagram’s fake bliss that hides the pain.”
