Nigeria regained its No. 1 spot in April 2023 as Africa’s largest oil producer, increasing production from 1.1 million barrels per day last month to 1.3 million barrels per day in May. This is information on crude oil production for May 2023, announced by the Organization of the Petroleum Producing Countries (OPEC).
The organization said in its June 2023 monthly oil markets report that the figures are based on data from secondary sources. At its latest record, Nigeria’s output is 1.1 bpd, overtaking Angola ๐ฆ๐ด to become Africa’s top producer, while Equatorial Guinea ๐ฌ๐ถ has the lowest at 56,000 bpd.
According to additional sources, total OPEC-13 crude output averaged 28.06 bpd in May 2023, down 464 bpd m/m. Crude oil production rose mainly in Nigeria ๐ณ๐ฌ IR Iran ๐ฎ๐ท and Angola ๐ฆ๐ด, while production fell in Saudi Arabia ๐ธ๐ฆ, UAE ๐ฆ๐ช and Kuwait ๐ฐ๐ผ,โ OPEC said.
